Honey For Sale

This is another 3D Postcard effort, based on a scene in a hilltown in Provence, France.  The rocks are carved surfboard foam, the drainpipe is plastic and the grate is laser cut card stock.  The assemblage is inserted into a frame, taking advantage of the depth to create the environment.  4.5"x6.5"x2"

This is laser cut/etched paper and card stock with clear acetate windows.  Pastels color the windows.  All other elements are airbrushed with pearl white acrylic. The title can be interpreted several ways.

Broken Normandy Shutter

 

This is another full size wall image that I wanted to build, instead of creating a painting of.
I saw this on the road between Caen and Bayeux. 
I created a smaller version of this image that was part painting and part dimensional.
I had to come back to this image again to fully explore what I could do with it.

The colors and textures of the stains on the wall make it interesting to look at.
The single light inside tempts you
to look closer into the windows...
at least that is what I was going for.

This vignette depicts the icons from the movie: The Bulldog Cafe and the GeeBee plane. It was built to 1/4" = 1' scale. The Bulldog lifts off to reveal an interior.

Normandy Shutters

This is another work that combines laser etching, paint and objects attached to the surface. The details like the wood plank, metal straps, hinge pins and brackets are fabricated and glued to the surface. The "branch" is an appropriate size twig. 11" x 14".

Venice Window 2

Acrylic on laser etched paper. Cut card and paper grate, window frames and leaves.
11" x 14".
The window is cut out and a sill was built to accommodate the grate, window frames and the struggling plant, complete with a pot just visible through the glass.
This piece and the piece below start to take the image off of the flat pane, but they're not completely three dimensional.

Continuing my struggle to depict the textures of Venetian walls, I experimented with this bas relief etching, only on a much smaller scale than the piece below. The plumbing pipe is added from plastic tubing, but it's hard to see that in the photo.
